About Me

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to TigreBlume In The Garden

My name is Shawna. My hands first found their way into the soil in 2016, and I haven't looked back!

When I started my gardening journey, I primarily focused on growing flowers so I could make my own floral bouquets, rather than buying them from stores. At that time, I mostly grew in containers/flower pots on my backyard deck.

Today, I grow a vast variety of flowers, vegetables, and herbs (mostly from seed)) in the ground, raised garden beds, containers and fabric bags. My goal is to grow the maximum amount of high-yield vegetables, herbs and flowers, all whilst experimenting with unconventional growing methods.

I garden in the United States Zone 6B and my outdoor growing season begins in March and typically ends in early December, depending on when we start to get consistent hard frosts.

I’ve learned so much through my own gardening experiences and am excited to share them with you! My mission is to demonstrate that you can harvest fresh produce and enjoy beautiful blooms, even if your garden is just a 4x4 balcony or a modest collection of flower pots.

Join me as I explore growing food and beauty in small spaces. Redefining what a "garden" looks like.

How I Grow

Colorful garden planter with sunflowers, kale, marigolds, and other flowering plants on a sunny day.
  • I have four in-ground beds and six galvanized raised beds (Birdies, Vegega and Vego).

  • I also grow in flower pots, fabric bags, and a Greenstalk planter.

  • I have drip irrigation setup in six of my garden beds, and everything else is watered by hand.

  • I put my drip on a timer during the warmer months, and invested in a Bluetooth/wireless setup that allows me to modify the watering schedule as needed when I am away from home.

  • I grow all of the plants in my garden from seed, with exception to a few perennial plants I purchased a few years ago (such as hostas, clematis and rose bushes), and a few dahlia and caladium tubers that I purchase each season. See my Photo page for a few pics of my seed start, plants and raised beds.

  • I don't follow conventional spacing or planting methods. I have a minimal amount of space to grow food and flowers, and a short growing season, so I plant as much as I can in all of my growing spaces.

  • This usually means lots of high-density planting and experimenting with growing different combinations of plants in the same planting area. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. However, I love to experiment with different methods and techniques so I can personally see what works for me!
