Goodbye Annual Flowers....and Summer Veggies!

Last week, I pulled most of my tomato plants π. It was so hard to pull them as they were still pushing out lots of fruit and flowers...however, with cooler temps on the way, I knew I had to pull them. Well...at least most of them.
I ended up leaving one paste tomato plant and my one and only sun gold tomato plant in one of the garden beds, just to see how much more they will produce until we get our first frost.
Also pulled all but one one bell pepper plant. I am going to continue to let my banana, cubanelle and fish pepper plants go until our first frost (i think) as I am not planning on planting anything else in that garden bed until next spring.
Overall, I am very pleased with how my tomato and pepper plants did this season. πI did not have any watering issues this year (like in the past), no pest pressure or disease, and I got tons of production from each plant π. Yay!
I have enough peppers to last until next season and plenty of tomatoes to make enough tomato, pasta, and pizza sauce to last us several months. Woohoo β¨!
I've also started to pull some of my annual flowers -- such as coleus, snapdragons and petunias. Some of them were still pushing out new blooms - which always causes me to second guess whether I should let them stay for a little longer. However, it makes it a little easier when I think of how much less time I will have to spend pulling them when it gets cold outside.
Fall is also a great time to harvest seeds from these annual flowers as most of them have started going to seed anyways. I will be saving as much seed as I can from my coleus, nasturtium, amaranth, marigold and petunia plants so I don't have to buy any for the upcoming season π.
I am also happy to share that my brassica plants are looking great...check out my Photo page for a glimpse on how things are coming along. The insect netting I added when I planted them out has really paid dividends. I am seeing very little pest damage thus far. I've also been feeding them a balanced fertilizer at least every other week.
Hope your fall gardens are doing greatπ.
