Happy Fall Ya’ll....Preparation and Planting!

Well...fall is officially here!
After many weeks of up and down temps, it looks like 80 and 90 degree days are behind us. Although I will miss the warmer temps, I am slighly ready to experience the cooler mornings and evenings. This morning it was a brisk 50 degrees out and we're supposed to have a nice 65 degree sunny day ☀️! This is my kind of weather as I can finally get out and do work in the garden without breaking a mad sweat :)
Any who...last month I prepped two new raised garden beds for fall brassica planting. They are Vego raised beds and were super duper easy to put together.
I filled each raised bed with a new potting mix purchased from one of the big box hardware stores in my area (very good quality loamy soil - which I was quite surprised by considering it was one of the lower priced soils). Also put cardboard and a few tree sticks in prior to adding the soil.
Once the soil was in place, I amened the beds with worm castings, blood meal (great for nitrogen loving plants) and granulated fertilizer. I let the beds rest for a few weeks and then transplanted brassicas/leafy greens I started from seed (cabbage, bok choy, pak choi, collard greens, kale and broccoli (watham and raab)). Covered with insect netting to protect them from unwanted garden pests and it is holding up very good thus far.
Also added a few swiss chard, lettuce, kale and broccoli plants (all grown from seed) to my greenstalk planter. So far I have only had to replace one or two of these plants with new starts due to transplant shock.
This week, I will be pulling spent plants from my container planters to make room for more brassica and leafy green starts. As well as pulling spent summer plants/flowers that have started to wilt and die back.
Hope your fall gardening is going well. Until next time friends❤️....
